PORTFOLIO AND DIVIDEND UPDATE OCTOBER 2021

The covid situation in Sg continues to remain grave, with new cases in the 3-4 thousands ranges and deaths around 10-20 per day on average.

I continued to stay the course. Investing and reinvesting my dividends and excess cash on quality dividend stocks which have good past dividend history record and likelihood of continuing the paying in the future.

Added more dividend stocks, some of which I already have.

Hk cross harbour. Quarterly dividends with past trend of slowly increasing is still welcomed. And price was pretty good for entry 10.50. Good for long term hold.

HaiO. New counter added. Looking back at the past 20 years past, this company managed to return some RM 2m back in 1997 to some RM 26m in recent times. It has some good hard assets backing, like HaiO tower near Bukit Bintang. Good for long term holding. Dividends about twice a year.

Emperor E holding. New counter added. Good to initiate to gain exposure to Macau gaming industry. Collect dividends and wait for recovery.

Goldlion. More added. 1.68 price. Rising NAV. Good stable recurring income from its hard assets in China, Hk and to a smaller extent, Sg. Expect profits from its ppty developments to be booked soon.

PORTFOLIO AND DIVIDEND UPDATE - SEPTEMBER 2021

The covid situation remained grave. At the time of writing this, its more than 2000 cases in a day. The number of deaths also gone up. Hope the situation can stabilize soon and hopefully come down.

Again, I stayed the course. Focused on dividend paying stocks. I feel its the best bet, more so during uncertain times.

When times are bad, the dividends prove very useful to assist in buying more stocks at inexpensive valuations.

To succeed in investing, actually no need to be very smart, no need to be very fast to catch the lowest price, no need to be very lucky to avoid the crashes as no one can anyway, but need to be clear minded and stay the course to invest for the long haul.

In fact, what i observe is that a lot of very smart people don't succeed in stock investing, mainly because they think they are very smart and surely can use their intelligence to outsmart the market. Some are maths geniuses and think they can use their maths knowledge to plot the most accurate TA chart and calculate the highest probability of success.

Some think their high PSLE score already give them an edge over others. The truth is that, perhaps one time win, two times win, even three times win, but can you win always?

What if one loss puts u back many steps like snake and ladders sliding the snake? And worse, imagine the distraction to their full time job. Some jobs cannot allow much distractions. In the end its lots of frustration and a lot of them conclude that the market is rigged.

There are no secret tips to what stocks to buy and no one special person you badly and only need to find in order to help you huat. Think about it, if it were secret tips, why should that person share with you? Even charging you money for that tip does not make sense, as he will spend all his time and effort buying it and huat himself.  Yeah, that special person you only need to find and your job is to look for him to teach you how to huat, also does not make sense. Why don't invest more time and effort to increase and improve your own knowledge on investing rather than hoping for some tips from some mysterious person?

Added more dividend stocks, some of which I already have.

1) Bank of East Asia. One of the more undervalued bank stocks. Less than 1/2 book. Also, less well known compared to the usual bank counters. Steady dividend payor. In addition, might give a big special due to disposal of its insurance business

2) Wah Ha realty. Already have this. One of the most undervalued and highest dividend paying counters. On its annual report are a lot of industrial properties, mostly left over from its heydays as industrial king in HK.

3) Oi Wah Pawnshop. One of the largest pawnshops group in HK. Doing mortgage loans also, which is quite steady and returns are quite good. Though this is a many decades old business, its listing is only about 8-9years. Never knew one day, I would be owning such a business.

4) Henderson Land. Needs no introduction. Lee SK flagship. Of course steady dividend ship. This big blue chip, best to be added at around peak of pessimism as hard to get it cheap otherwise

5) Chevalier. Another steady good yield dividend ppty counter. Look at its AR, rather impressive stable of ppties, including some 120k freehold industrials in Sg

6) Aeon Credit. 22c dividend restored. At 44c per year dividends, this makes this counter one of the most highest yielding. Most likely can maintain as payout ratio is 50 plus percent only.

PORTFOLIO AND DIVIDEND UPDATE AUGUST 2021

Added more dividend stocks :  texwinca, bursa malaysia, sun hung kai co and noel gifts.

Noel Gifts : surprise surprise. was expecting 1.5cents, but it decided to declare double that. i observe the cash pile has been increasing. good decision by management unless it has better use for the cash.

Texwinca : clothes manufacturing factory. This plus pacific texile, would cover a lot of the texile manufacturing in the region.

Sun hung kai co : Good dividend payor. Got it at a good price this round. With its latest results release, seems even more undervalued.

Bursa malaysia : needs no introduction. equivalent to sgx to sg. again, got it at a fair to good price, as at the time of typing this, price has recovered to around my purchase price and 24sen on its my to my account.

Due to requests from friends, I decided to come out with a basic portfolio of SGD20K that pays monthly dividends.

Will keep the number of companies small so as allow easier management for starters.

These are all well known companies and most people would have heard of them.

They should be able to pay out dividends and even raise them over time.

Use it as a guide and of course pls DYODD. Personally I am vested in all of them.

Always double check figures.

I shall not be responsible for any errors in the above. And use the information at your own risk.

Investment carries risks, including the total loss of the investment sum.

Portfolio and dividend update July 2021

Added more dividend stocks :  Noel gifts, Carrianna, Valuetronics, SBS transit, Swire Pacific B, UOAdev and pacific texiles.

Noel Gifts : home grown gift and hampers company. illiquid. took a while to get into the stake i am looking at. Around 1/2 of the price is cash. Little debt. Almost all its price is its hard asset property price. I consider it low risk and looking at 1-2cent payout year after year, ie anything from 5%-10% yield.

Carrianna : locals might not know. But Hongkongers will know its famous chichow restaurants. this is deeply undervalued. lots of hard asset backing. pays around 3c per year.

Valuetronics : local company, good dividend payors year after year and likely can increase with time

SBS transit : uninteresting counter which needs no introduction also. cannot huat big but good for income

Swire Pacific B : diversified Hk and London based British conglomerate. Owns business including property, aviation, beverages, food chain, shipping, offshore support services etc

Pacific Texiles : Makes stuff for Uniqlo, which accounts for a significant portion of its business. High consistent yield. Business could just be turning over for the better.

Sold: Lian Beng

Decided to divest out of lian beng. Low ball offer of 50cents. Skipped dividend last year when it could afford to pay. Afterall, with so many good dividend counters in the region, no lacking of better dividend paying counters to divest to.

Portfolio and dividend update June 2021

Added more dividend stocks :  Kmloong, UOAdev, pintaras and guangdong investment

Sold: SMM

1. Kmloong. Increased my exposure to plantation stocks selectively, ie those which have good track record and pays good dividends. Kmloong is one of them. And this counter is interesting in that its involved in power generation also.

2. UOAdev. Owns several very prime buildings in KL. Undervalued. High yield which most likely can be maintained. On top of these, owns a huge piece of prime land, which might be developed later on.

3. Pintaras : A bit strange as I invest in this when i am Singaporean. Cos this is Malaysian counter which is increasingly involved in business operations ie piling works in Singapore. But good company and good management with stellar track record. Very good potential of dividend raise in good times

4. Guangdong investment; Steady dividend counter of water management and also it has quite massive ppty assets in china. Keep on rising dividends.

Portfolio and Dividend Update May 2021

The covid crisis continues to rage around the world, quite bad in neighbouring Malaysia, warranting the leader to call for a lock down.

I continued to stay the course and added more dividend stocks. Tech stocks do look enticing especially when the gains can be so much in such short periods of time. I recall some two decades ago, tech stocks were also in favour then. Local tech stock creative became a stock darling! It made the owner Mr Sim a billionire as creative hit some $60 per share! Truly incredible run up. Now its price $2.54 is less than 5% of that 20years ago. Is anyone willing to bet that the stock will rise from the ashes again and rehit and even surpass its highs once again? More likely that not, any shareholder holding the stock back then and who has held it till now are still suffering major paper losses, not much mitigated by the dividends received so far. The owner is no longer a billionaire but still a very rich man of net worth around 60mil. Now a lot of these tech billionaires created today are worth much more than just 1-2Billion. Quite a number of them are worth tens of billions up to 100-200 billion. Think about it, even if say they would to lose 95% of their wealth, most probably they will still hold their billionaire status and can still afford a GCB and private jet. But the same doesn't hold true for someone who's worth 10m and losing 95% of his wealth. This would put him from a position of literally financial freedom, since at 4%pa, 10m would still give a good 400kpa passive, to degrade him to a net worth of a mere 500k, hardly enough for a single person to live quite a basic sustenance in Singapore. Thats for a person 10M to lose 95% of his wealth. What if he started with only 1m or less and made the wrong tech stock bet? Yeah, consequences might be quite jialat. And more often than not, they don't pay much dividends. A lot of them don't pay at all.

Keeping the above in mind, I better stick to what i know best, ie dividend stocks.

Ok, back to update proper.

Added more stocks : Allan International, Cross Harbour holdings, UOB, MBM resources and Paramount corp.

Allan Int. Deeply undervalued stock. Large cash holdings with lots of prime properties. Steady dividend ship. Gia Lui while waiting for value to be unlocked.

Cross Harbour. Quarterly payouts. Also deep value. Big special dividend might just happen one day. Steady asset growing counter and slow rise in dividends payout over time. Slow and steady wins the race.

MBM resources. A bit erratic the growth pattern but discernible rise over time with rise in dividends. Lots of shop spaces, factories and shophouses noted in its AR

Paramount corp. A generous dividend counter. Not afraid to share profits and dividends with shareholders. Deeply undervalued, with real value some 2-3x current share price. Sad news that its founder recently passed away.
