PORTFOLIO AND DIVIDEND UPDATE - JANUARY 2021

As i write this post on a monday afternoon, i notice that market has moved downwards. Whether its short term or early part of a longer term correction, i cannot be sure. It's simply too perilous to bet your precious cash on market trends as more than half the time we know that market will prove one to be wrong.

Some will say buying index is more suitable or buying properties etc. And others say buying put options works. Do whatever it works for you and you still get a peaceful sleep each day. At the end of this, it is going to be your support in your old days. If you can imagine trading frequently and doing options regularly during your old age, can make money and still non disruptive to your life, then its fine. But I think to myself and a lot of normal folks here, we are just basically happy enough to sit back and gia lui and spend it on whatever that we like.

This month, I added more UOB, United Plantations, Allianz and RHB bank, and received bonus shares from Public bank.

PORTFOLIO AND DIVIDEND UPDATE DECEMBER 2020

The year started with index 3238 and ended a couple of days back with index 2843. This represents a drop of 12.2%.

I stayed the course and continued to add more dividend stocks. At STI 2800 plus, local market is starting to appear not so cheap. But compared to other major indices it’s relatively cheaper. As I am already pretty heavy on local banks, I turned my attention to overseas market, mainly HK and My.

I continued to add shares which I see potential for good dividend payouts and subscribe to scrip dividends where possible. The past year, the latter proved fruitful, as in the case of local banks, Far East consortium and sinoland.

I took position in water oasis. I noted that it has postponed its board meeting and now the shares are suspended pending audits of its accounts. I could be wrong in this but my mistake  is limited to a less than two tenth percent of it becomes zero. Even for such a position, I did my due research. It’s been paying dividends for past 20yrs or so and has one bonus issue. More than 10% cagr if one were to stay vested since listing. And it’s recently subscribed for hkd132m worth of blue moon shares. But let’s see whether this will turn out to be a disaster or it’s still business as usual.

This month, I added more LPI capital, Pokfulam, MagniTech, Wellcal, WingOn and Water Oasis.
