Portfolio and dividend update July 2021

Added more dividend stocks :  Noel gifts, Carrianna, Valuetronics, SBS transit, Swire Pacific B, UOAdev and pacific texiles.

Noel Gifts : home grown gift and hampers company. illiquid. took a while to get into the stake i am looking at. Around 1/2 of the price is cash. Little debt. Almost all its price is its hard asset property price. I consider it low risk and looking at 1-2cent payout year after year, ie anything from 5%-10% yield.

Carrianna : locals might not know. But Hongkongers will know its famous chichow restaurants. this is deeply undervalued. lots of hard asset backing. pays around 3c per year.

Valuetronics : local company, good dividend payors year after year and likely can increase with time

SBS transit : uninteresting counter which needs no introduction also. cannot huat big but good for income

Swire Pacific B : diversified Hk and London based British conglomerate. Owns business including property, aviation, beverages, food chain, shipping, offshore support services etc

Pacific Texiles : Makes stuff for Uniqlo, which accounts for a significant portion of its business. High consistent yield. Business could just be turning over for the better.

Sold: Lian Beng

Decided to divest out of lian beng. Low ball offer of 50cents. Skipped dividend last year when it could afford to pay. Afterall, with so many good dividend counters in the region, no lacking of better dividend paying counters to divest to.

Portfolio and dividend update June 2021

Added more dividend stocks :  Kmloong, UOAdev, pintaras and guangdong investment

Sold: SMM

1. Kmloong. Increased my exposure to plantation stocks selectively, ie those which have good track record and pays good dividends. Kmloong is one of them. And this counter is interesting in that its involved in power generation also.

2. UOAdev. Owns several very prime buildings in KL. Undervalued. High yield which most likely can be maintained. On top of these, owns a huge piece of prime land, which might be developed later on.

3. Pintaras : A bit strange as I invest in this when i am Singaporean. Cos this is Malaysian counter which is increasingly involved in business operations ie piling works in Singapore. But good company and good management with stellar track record. Very good potential of dividend raise in good times

4. Guangdong investment; Steady dividend counter of water management and also it has quite massive ppty assets in china. Keep on rising dividends.

Portfolio and Dividend Update May 2021

The covid crisis continues to rage around the world, quite bad in neighbouring Malaysia, warranting the leader to call for a lock down.

I continued to stay the course and added more dividend stocks. Tech stocks do look enticing especially when the gains can be so much in such short periods of time. I recall some two decades ago, tech stocks were also in favour then. Local tech stock creative became a stock darling! It made the owner Mr Sim a billionire as creative hit some $60 per share! Truly incredible run up. Now its price $2.54 is less than 5% of that 20years ago. Is anyone willing to bet that the stock will rise from the ashes again and rehit and even surpass its highs once again? More likely that not, any shareholder holding the stock back then and who has held it till now are still suffering major paper losses, not much mitigated by the dividends received so far. The owner is no longer a billionaire but still a very rich man of net worth around 60mil. Now a lot of these tech billionaires created today are worth much more than just 1-2Billion. Quite a number of them are worth tens of billions up to 100-200 billion. Think about it, even if say they would to lose 95% of their wealth, most probably they will still hold their billionaire status and can still afford a GCB and private jet. But the same doesn't hold true for someone who's worth 10m and losing 95% of his wealth. This would put him from a position of literally financial freedom, since at 4%pa, 10m would still give a good 400kpa passive, to degrade him to a net worth of a mere 500k, hardly enough for a single person to live quite a basic sustenance in Singapore. Thats for a person 10M to lose 95% of his wealth. What if he started with only 1m or less and made the wrong tech stock bet? Yeah, consequences might be quite jialat. And more often than not, they don't pay much dividends. A lot of them don't pay at all.

Keeping the above in mind, I better stick to what i know best, ie dividend stocks.

Ok, back to update proper.

Added more stocks : Allan International, Cross Harbour holdings, UOB, MBM resources and Paramount corp.

Allan Int. Deeply undervalued stock. Large cash holdings with lots of prime properties. Steady dividend ship. Gia Lui while waiting for value to be unlocked.

Cross Harbour. Quarterly payouts. Also deep value. Big special dividend might just happen one day. Steady asset growing counter and slow rise in dividends payout over time. Slow and steady wins the race.

MBM resources. A bit erratic the growth pattern but discernible rise over time with rise in dividends. Lots of shop spaces, factories and shophouses noted in its AR

Paramount corp. A generous dividend counter. Not afraid to share profits and dividends with shareholders. Deeply undervalued, with real value some 2-3x current share price. Sad news that its founder recently passed away.

PORTFOLIO AND DIVIDEND UPDATE APRIL 2021

The covid crisis continues to rage around the world, especially in places such as India.

I continued to stay the course and added more dividend stocks

Added more stocks : Raymond Industries, L&M chemical, Vicom, Sun Hung Kai Company and GSK.

Raymond Industries. A steady dividend payer, long standing history. Quite a number of positive earning alerts in this corporate announcement. Business is nothing interesting, dealing with electrical appliances. But this covid crisis, seems its air purifier became fast moving and moved its bottom line rather significantly.

L&M chemical. It makes chemicals products, and one of it includes polymers involved in the 5G cable network in China, which is a big market.

Sun Hung Kai company. Steady dividend payer. Provides loans and fund management services.

Vicom. Most probably can’t expect dramatic rises in prices and dividends going forward. I would treat this is another cash flow created.

GSK. Diversification into UK market, besides hsbc and hkland which i already have. Long term should be a good contributor to my dividend cash flow with its quarterly payout. Short term, could have some dividend cuts, which explained the below $1300 price per share which i was able to get my hands on.

PORTFOLIO AND DIVIDEND UPDATE MARCH 2021

The covid crisis is still on going but I think mankind have made some progress in their fight against the virus. The rates of new infection and deaths seems to show that the situation is improving and populations around the world are progressively getting vaccinated. It might still take a while to get most of us vaccinated and the rest protected against this disease.

I continued to stay the course and add more dividend stocks

Added more stocks : Low Keng Huat Pak Fah Yeow LHT holdings Tai Sang Land Giordano Yip Chemical, Nanyang Holdings.

LHT. Opportunity came when it was sold down to 62-63 cents. It was already in my watch list. That price is below its cash value. Hardly can lose. And more over, dividends coming. Sure enough, after that it never traded at 62-63 cents. Why the sell down one might ask? Could be weak hands strong hands theory.

Low Keng Huat. Trading at half book and already booked in profits from AXA stake sale. Risk is low. And possibility of dividend raise from its previous year's 1.5 cents is there.

PFY. Cannot don't notice this small bottled oil when i do my shopping at Yue Hua in Ch

inatown. Nearly 100 year business, with good ppties in its stable and pays regular dividends with room to improve. Owner appears to a charitable person, an added reason to invest in this.

Tai Sang Land. Another very old HK listed company. Its sister company is a non listed, one branch only bank in HK. Also a regular dividend payor. Deep value one also. Owns ppties in one of the pricest places in HK. Take a look at its AR.

Giordano. Also a regular dividend payor. Majority owner its the late Billionaire Cheng Yu Tung. Price had risen to HKD 5-6 IIRC, on rumours of a GO. Now majority owned by his Billionaire descendents.

Yip Chem. An interesting company which owns several different entities which might go for a separate listing subsequently. Dividend raise already declared and possibly more to come, from its unusually robust businesses despite covid.

Nanyang Holding. Another old company. Heavily undervalued. Owns a large stake in Shanghai Commercial and Savings Bank.

Sold off most of Singapore Reinsurance. This is one of the rare sell. Reason is because of the GO taking place and the yield is becoming pretty low. Revision of offer cannot be ruled out, but its hard to say. And besides, there was candidates to rotate out, with higher yield.

DIVIDEND AND PORTFOLIO UPDATE FEBRUARY 2021

The rates of new infection and deaths seems to show that the situation is improving and populations around the world are progressively getting vaccinated. It might still take a while to get most of us vaccinated.

I continue to stay the course and add more dividend stocks

Nothing sold.

Added more stocks such as OCBC HO BEE LAND WAH HA SOUP RESTAURANT PAK YEOW FAH

Soup restaurant is dual reason, more actually for its S card whereby member get to enjoy at 15% discount. I got it’s shares at about 9cents. I figured that it’s pretty cheap already, got dividends to collect and discount when eating at their outlets. Not bad imo!

Ho Bee land doesnt need much introduction. Pretty stable and predictable counter led by Mr Chua Thiam Poh. Collect 8-10cents a year and possible rise over time, together with the remote possibility of GO are the deal here.

WH is a 1/2 century old small cap HK company. Undervalued dividend counter

PYF is a ppty and medicated oil company, originated from Penang but listed in HK. Another dividend counter.

PORTFOLIO AND DIVIDEND UPDATE - JANUARY 2021

As i write this post on a monday afternoon, i notice that market has moved downwards. Whether its short term or early part of a longer term correction, i cannot be sure. It's simply too perilous to bet your precious cash on market trends as more than half the time we know that market will prove one to be wrong.

Some will say buying index is more suitable or buying properties etc. And others say buying put options works. Do whatever it works for you and you still get a peaceful sleep each day. At the end of this, it is going to be your support in your old days. If you can imagine trading frequently and doing options regularly during your old age, can make money and still non disruptive to your life, then its fine. But I think to myself and a lot of normal folks here, we are just basically happy enough to sit back and gia lui and spend it on whatever that we like.

This month, I added more UOB, United Plantations, Allianz and RHB bank, and received bonus shares from Public bank.
